The Joues Contraste Blush formula is supposed to have a “silky, delicate texture” with “buildable coverage” that gives a “radiant glow.” This is one of four exclusives to Chanel’s website, though it has been released before (but I don’t remember having it). The texture of Reflex was silky, thin, but finely-milled and, surprisingly, blendable on the skin as the color diffused easily across the skin and had a soft, luminous sheen after buffing and working the powder into the skin. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage (two layers for true-to-pan color). On me, the blush wore well for eight hours before fading.

It’s a new, limited edition formula that’s described as a “highlighting powder [that] softly illuminates” with a “shimmering, pearlescent glow.” Long-time readers will know I have a personal weakness for highlighters, particularly smooth, silky, finely-milled ones, but Chanel disappointed me with this release with its chalky, powdery, and clumpy “highlighter” with minimal luminosity. It is largely a white-based powder with a touch of larger sparkle in it–I would not say it is a glow nor is it “micro-fine” in feel. Extremely fair complexions might be able to dust this all over, but the powder does not seem to add luminosity but rather dulls skin, while the sparkle is sparse but large enough that it just doesn’t give any glow. When I wore it as a cheek highlighter, it lasted for seven hours before fading.

Hyperfresh had mostly opaque color coverage, and it was less buildable than a lot of other Chanel blushes I’ve tried in the past. The consistency was thin, a little drier but had a softness to it that I’d expect from the formula. I struggled to spread and diffuse the color evenly across the cheeks, though, and I ended up having to cheat to soften the edges by using flesh-toned looser powder and a buffing brush. The blush stayed on the skin well for eight and a half hours.

Chanel Innocent (14) Rouge Allure Gloss ($37.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a medium pink with warm undertones and very fine, light pink pearl. It had good color coverage, though not fully opaque, that went on without streaking, but some of the color settled into my lower lip lines noticeably.

The Rouge Allure Gloss formula is supposed to have “the colour intensity of a lipstick” with the “shine of a lipgloss” paired with “long-wearing coverage” that “instantly hydrates.” It’s a formula most suited for someone who likes more pigmented gloss, doesn’t mind some tackiness, and needs hydration. The texture had a light-medium weight to it with a light to moderate tackiness, which developed over time. It was comfortable to wear, as it was quite smooth and felt hydrating over the five hours it lasted.

Chanel Ombres Lamées de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette ($105.00 for 0.49 oz.) is undeniably more intricate and stunning upon arrival than most powders, but the question is whether the product–once the overspray is removed–actually lives up to the three digit price tag. There are six narrow strips with different designs, but there are actually only three unique shades. I wish the colors were contained with two strips in a row, rather than alternating, because it would make each area about a third of the pan and totally usable with a brush. It doesn’t work as well as average-sized eye brushes and is one better suited for detail brushes or if you don’t mind mixing shades.

The good news is that it was wearable and resulted in a decent look, but I don’t think the eyeshadows are particularly amazing (and they are, at least, dupable). They could be more pigmented and less dusty. The upside is that the palette itself contained a massive amount of product, so at least they didn’t skimp on that! The included brushes are decent, though I think they are still too large (especially the rounded crease brush) for using the shades individually. (They are better quality than the normal applicators that come in Chanel’s palettes, so that is likely part of the “justification” of the price tag.)

Ombres Lamées de Chanel #1 is a muted, medium golden brown with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation with a drier, slightly dusty texture that was a little messy to use on the lid. It lasted for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

The color payoff was good, but it was hard to maintain the color’s true depth, as it often was lightened by the neighboring shade. The powder felt a little drier and firmer in the pan, though it wasn’t difficult to blend out on the lid. It wore well for seven hours before fading on me.

It had a drier, looser consistency; it seemed like the shimmer pulled away from the base color, which gave it a more uneven texture and amount of coverage on the lid (and primer did not fix that). The pigmentation was semi-opaque and buildable. This shade started to fade after six hours on me.

Chanel Ardente (175) Rouge Allure Luminous Lip Colour ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. The Rouge Allure Luminous Lip Color formula is supposed to have “intense” coverage with long-wear and a satin finish. This shade had nearly opaque color coverage that applied smoothly and evenly. The texture was thin but very, very smooth and lightweight on the lips without being clingy. This shade lasted for five hours, stained my lips moderately, and was slightly hydrating over time.

Chanel Coco Code Harmonie de Blush ($70.00 for 0.38 oz.) is a soft, medium pink-coral with fine gold shimmer over a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage.

The Harmonie de Blush formula is described as a “multi-task[ing]” product that can be used for highlighting, bronzing, or blushing. There are four shades–a light, shimmery pink, peachy-brown, coral-red, and golden beige–that are easiest to use swirled together, though you can concentrate your blush more toward two of the four shades (vertically or horizontally) for more/less shimmer or color. The majority of the color comes from the coral-red, while most of the shimmer comes from the golden beige. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable without being too powdery or too firm in the pan, so it was easy to apply to the skin. As I blended the blush out, it yielded a luminous sheen that wasn’t noticeably shimmery on the skin. This shade wore well for eight hours on me.

Chanel Elegance (370) Joues Contraste Blush ($45.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a soft, medium-dark brown with warm, orange undertones and a satin sheen. The formula is supposed to be “soft” and “silky” with a radiant finish. Elegance had good color payoff–not quite opaque but definitely buildable to opaque coverage in two layers–with a soft, silky texture that didn’t kick up much excess powder in the pan. The blush blended out beautifully on the skin and gave it a natural sheen that did not look shimmery, just glowy. On me, it wore well for just over eight hours before fading.

The formula is the same as the other quads in the Les 4 Ombres range, which is supposed to be “vibrant, pigment-rich” with “long-lasting pigments” and “effortless application.” It’s a stunning set of shades that work well together, is easy to apply and blend out, and lasts for eight hours (without primer). The biggest “con” to this palette is just that the shades are more dupable, so you may already have similar golds and browns in your stash!

Chanel Noir Petrole (931) Stylo Yeux Eyeliner ($33.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a deep black with subtle, olive brown undertones and a fine, satin sheen. It looked a lot more complex in the swatch photo than I could really see in person as an eyeliner on my lower lash line, though.

The Stylo Yeux formula is supposed to be a “waterproof, smudge-proof” eyeliner with a “gentle, soft” texture. I gave up on this formula bit ago, as the majority of shades I had tried had a really firm, stiff, and painful-to-use texture, but I happened to receive one shade as a press sample, figured I’d give it a shot, and was pleasantly surprised. It was much, much creamier–so much so that I purchased the other shade in the collection. The texture was creamy without being too wet, so it didn’t transfer or migrate easily. Noir Petrole had semi-opaque coverage in one stroke, but it was buildable to opaque coverage in two layers. It was easy (and not painful!) to use even on my waterline. The eyeliner was still going strong after ten hours of wear.

Chanel La Secrete (61) Rouge Allure Velvet ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a soft, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation, but it was not fully opaque and could have applied more evenly.

The Rouge Velvet formula is supposed to be “non-drying” with “intensely rich, long-wearing colour” paired with a “soft, velvet matte finish.” The latter should be code for “not really matte,” as they have a more satin-to-matte finish that gets less satin and more matte after one to two hours of wear. The consistency was incredibly smooth and velvety, so it glided on easily and never tugged, but there was some slip to it that seemed to interfere with the application–some color gathered in lines, not totally even, and it had shorter-wear than most of the Rouge Allure Velvets do for me at a mere three and a half hours. The formula was, though, non-drying.

Lumieres de Kyoto

Chanel Lumieres de Kyoto Harmonie de Blush ($70.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark coral with warm, orange undertones and a gold shimmer strewn through a mostly matte finish.

The formula is supposed to “highlight, enhance and boost radiance for a luminous look” and consists of three shades–a soft, shimmery beige, muted coral-red, and light beige. The consistency was dusty and drier for me, which resulted in product not adhering as well to my arm (which is drier than my face) and looking noticeably powdery. It had semi-sheer, buildable coverage that looked better when I patted and buffed it onto my cheeks. It could have been a little more blendable for me, though, as it took some extra work to diffuse the edges when I tried it on my cheeks. The blush lasted for seven and a half hours before fading on me.

Chanel Beige Dore (126) Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine ($37.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a soft gold with fine pearl and a luminous sheen. It had sheer coverage, which primarily added a little warmth to my natural lip color and a moderate shimmer and shine.

The Rouge Coco Shine formula is supposed to “soften and hydrate lips” with sheer coverage. In general, the formula has the feel of a tinted lip balm–very emollient, moderate slip, and some shine–and has a similar coverage level. The lighter shades, like this one, tend to seem even sheerer as they don’t noticeably alter the lip color. The lipstick was easy to apply, comfortable to wear when it was on, and could be re-applied without having to look into a mirror. Unfortunately, the formula was not particularly hydrating on me, and with the wear-time (an hour and a half), it’s hard to get excited for this shade.

Chanel Noir Moderne (128) Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine< ($37.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a muted,d ark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a soft sheen. It had sheer coverage, but the deeper hue made it more impactful; this is the type of coverage level that can create a lot of variance in how it translates from person to person due to just how much of the natural lip color comes through, but it will likely darken your natural lip color while adding some plummy color. The consistency was balm-like, emollient, and spread easily across the lips, and I had very little color that sat in lip lines but there was a bit. This shade wore well for three hours on me and was a touch moisturizing.
